"I hope you all choke on your popcorn tonight. No spoilers, or we will haunt you all. Signed, Flyover Country."
Apparently neither Detroit or Chicago are "Select Cities". Upon further research, neither were Boston, DC, Miami, or SF. Looks like I'm stuck waiting until next Friday.

Yeah, I'm pretty livid DC wasn't included.

Right?! Chicago, 3rd largest metro area in the US isn't a "Select City".

Makes no sense to me.

Wait. So, I've watched this movie a week ago and you guys haven't got it?
That's some weird distribution strategy.

It's been playing for over a week here in Porto Alegre as well. Haven't seen it yet, but I will tonight, or tomorrow night. Maybe they think F1 doesn't have a strong enough following in the us...? I don't see how that would make sense though, as the movie isn't REALLY about F1, but the drivers.

I'm going to go see it on Saturday but I promise I won't ruin the results of the race for you guys.

The Hollywood machine lives for multiple "Premieres". I can wait another week, I just don't want to, because RACECAR. AND. SEX. This move has 2 of my 3 favorite things. And if it has Cadbury Creme Eggs... Hat Trick.

Well played.
I just meant for any of the good, fictionalized stuff.

But the production and team are still American, though. There is no apparent reason why they would delay the release over there. I bet they were waiting for the Jalopnik Film Festival to release it!

Psssh, I already know how this movie ends.

Yeah, that has to be it. But this still makes no sense to release it earlier in the rest of the world. It's usually the opposite.
Well, sort of good for me because I've watched it already. But bad on the other hand because there are few people to talk to about it.

By making a big deal out of the premiere, they do a good job of keeping the film "top of mind" with the voting memebers of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences when Oscar season comes around.

That is a very reasonable and valid point! I forgot Academy experts were the type of person who votes by convenience and hype.

That is exactly how it works. The big money, big name actor/director/producer films all hold their releases until September - December. These are typically dramas and story driven films that don't rely on copious special effects (those are the summer blockbusters in the US which release between May and September and are rarely contenders for any Academy awards beyond Technical Achievements). Once nominations are released, each of these films also scrambles to add the tags "Oscar Nominated ______" to their advertising to prolong their theatrical runs and rake in extra grosses.
Like everything in Hollywood, it's never been about the art form, it's only about the money.

How can there be spoilers in a movie that is, for the most part, a documentary?
